Happy Friday! Here are your weekly CIPHER updates:

Important Info!!
- TONIGHT: COMMUNITY FRIDAY!! 6-8pm at PS 128 (169th and Broadway)
- TOMORROW: October 26th, FAMILY DAY!! at PS 28

- HEALTH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY!!
- Contact Catherine for more info (ccg2163): Join our health education team in an environmental health/climate education mini courses we are creating with some high school students and The Climate Club! Sign Up Link to sign up for the topic you’re most interested in. The leaders will reach out to get you in the group chat once you have signed up. More information below.
- Need being met: There is currently no environmental health/climate education for K-12
- Goal: Get high schoolers involved in designing the course and the course will be offered to high schoolers through their own climate organizations
- What: Create a course covering 3 topics (climate change/brief overview, environmental racism, sustainability). Each topic will be covered in one 30 minute lesson (3 lessons total).
- Who: High schoolers from two organizations (one based in New Jersey, one based in California) will team up with CIPHER students in 3 teams. Each team will be assigned one of the topics to create a lesson for.
- Timeline: 2-3 months total, spanning the fall semester. Teams will meet every other week to check in with one another and collaborate. Each month we will have a meeting with everyone involved to check in on progress. The time commitment per week should be about 1-2 hours.

- CIPHER has a Discord server! This will be for the sharing of community events and volunteer opportunities that are not directly affiliated with CIPHER but may be of interest to you all :)
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities!!
- Community Friday at PS 128, 6-8pm
- While PUSH* leads every 1st and 3rd Friday, CIPHER will lead every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.
- You do NOT need to be good at basketball or volleyball to volunteer! If you don't want to do sports at all, we would love your help with the health education component (and taking pictures, etc.).
- *If you’ve already signed up for PUSH, that’s great!! Please volunteer for whichever Friday(s) best suit your schedule :)
